Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s),
We would like to let you know about an exciting opportunity to join our local governing board as a parent/carer governor.
The Role of the Local Governing Board
Our school’s governing board provides strong, strategic leadership while ensuring clear accountability and oversight of the school’s educational and financial performance.
We’re passionate about education and dedicated to helping the school thrive and grow, ensuring that every pupil achieves their full potential.
The Role of a Parent Governor
As a parent governor, you’ll work alongside the board to make sure it fulfils its responsibilities effectively. While you’ll bring a valuable parental perspective to discussions, your role is not to act as a spokesperson for the parent body.
To be a parent governor, you should have:
- A strong commitment to the role and to improving outcomes for children
- Good interpersonal skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
- Specific skills that contribute to effective governance
We’re particularly keen to hear from candidates who bring expertise in the following areas:
- I.T. and digital systems
- Outdoor learning and experiences
- Health & Safety
Expectations of Governors
Becoming a governor is a rewarding and meaningful way to support the school. While it is a commitment of time and energy, many governors find it to be an incredibly enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
Our meetings are held face-to-face five times a year, usually on Thursdays from 4:15 pm to 6:15 pm. Beyond these core meetings, we’d love to find a candidate who is also able to visit the school during the school day to support its activities.
Governors are expected to follow a code of conduct, maintain confidentiality, and complete some mandatory training.
How to Apply
If you’re interested in applying, please complete the attached candidate form and return it to Kate Ilott, kilott@bettertogetherlearningtrust.org or the school office by 2pm on Monday 10th March 2025.
If there are more nominations than the number of Parent/Carer Governor vacancies, we will send out ballot papers with the name of the candidates and their details on 17th March 2025. Each parent will have one vote per vacancy regardless of the number of children you have in the school. The ballot is secret; you can send or post the ballot papers back in a sealed envelope or drop it into the ballot box outside the school office. All votes must be in by 24th March at 2.00p.m. when they will be counted.
